التأويل الباطن هي ظاهرة فكرية تميزت بها فرقة الاسماعيلية. وقد ذهب الاسماعيليون الى أن لكل شيء (=ظاهر محسوس) تأويلاً باطنياً لا يعرفه إلا الراسخون في العلم وهم الائمة، وهؤلاء الائمة يودعون هذا العلم الباطن لكبار الدعاة بقدر معين، ذلك أن التأويل بالباطن قد خص الله به علياً، فكما أن الرسول صلى الله عليه وسلم خص بالتنزيل، فكذلك علي بن ابي طالب خص بالتأويل. هذا البحث يختص بتوضيح فرقة الاسماعيلية والاصول التي قامت عليها وتحديداً التأويل، ومن ثَم بيان مواقف وردود علماء أهل السنة والجماعة بشتى أطيافهم من التأويل الباطني الاسماعيلي.
